what i teach on harmonica

I'll help you learn your favorite music. Maybe it's blues or rock. That style is known as cross harp. I also teach fast, single note playing of Old Time Appalachian fiddle tunes, Bluegrass, or Irish fiddle tunes, but on the harmonica. Playing those styles is known as straight harp. The portability of the harmonica makes it a favorite instrument but few people really learn to play it well. I can help you unravel it's mysteries, whether you're a beginner and just want to jam or an advanced player and want to push your theoretical understanding of modal playing and experimental blues techniques. You'll have fun playing Cool Music that means something to you.

You'll take home worksheets and tabs for blues rhythms and riffs and we'll make sure your playing is stylistically correct. To play with recordings, you should understand 12 bar blues structure, tricks of navigating through a turnaround, and bending notes, blowing and drawing. If you don't know much about music theory, I'll help you with the basics from the beginning. Click on the tabs in gold, to the left, for more information or call (760) 943-8684 or Email Jerry.
